Spring and summer time is a magical time of year, especially when it comes to senior pictures. If you’re looking to get your senior photos taken in Nebraska while flowers are in full bloom, there are just a few things to consider. Every season brings different types of flowers and different blooming times, so understanding when the perfect time is can be tricky. Let’s take a look at when you should book your flower-filled senior pictures in this Midwestern state.
When it comes to figuring out exactly when the right time might be for booking your flower-filled senior pictures in Nebraska, understanding the seasons is key. Generally speaking, spring starts around mid-March and runs through mid-May. The temperatures during this season are unpredictable; some days can be warm and sunny while others may still feel like winter! It’s also important to note that springtime also brings with it quite a bit of rain, which can impact your photo shoot if you don’t plan ahead properly. And of course, we can’t forget about how much wind we get in the spring here in Nebraska! It feels like almost daily the wind is blowing fifty miles an hour.
Typically, when most people think about springtime they think about tulips and daffodils blooming—and these two types of flowers are certainly prevalent throughout Nebraska during the months of April and May. However, other types of flowers bloom during this same period as well including crocuses, hyacinths, pansies, daisies, columbines and more! So whatever type of flowery vibe you are going for with your senior photos, chances are that there will be plenty available come springtime in Nebraska. We especially LOVE flowering trees in pictures. If you pay attention to locations like UNL we can typically find some fun florals to pop your senior pictures locally.
Of course you won’t want to just show up on the day of your scheduled photoshoot without having any idea where you might find your desired blooms—that would definitely not end well! That said, there are quite a few spots throughout Nebraska that offer an abundance of beautiful flowers come springtime.
For example Omaha has many parks that have plenty of colorful blooms including Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Similarly Lincoln has several parks worth checking out such as Pioneers Park Nature Center or Antelope Park where all sorts of lovely flora can be found growing during the months leading into summertime. I also mentioned above that UNL is full of blooms as well as locations like Sunken Gardens. My last bit of advice is to check out places like Blue Stem or Branched Oak lake. Those locations might surprise you and have a few fun little wildflower fields!
My last favorite spots are all local and just getting out to drive and look around. I’ve found some of my favorite fields of flowers for my senior girls by finding ditches filled. Then it’s just popping into those spots and focusing on the perfect angles!
I know this might feel overwhelming but if you take the time to do some research and really focus on scouting locations it will make your senior portraits a success when it comes to finding those perfect flowers you’re dreaming of! Of course you can reach out to me and I’d love to work with you by recommending local spots at different times of the seasons but ultimately, things change yearly so scouting is the only way to ensure success.
If all else fails and we can’t find flowers, that’s ok! Just snag a bouquet and let’s incorporate it into your session that way!
Booking your flower-filled senior pictures in Nebraska doesn’t have to be as hard as it may seem at first glance—all you need is knowledge about the seasons and an understanding about what type of flowers will be available at certain places during certain times! Timing may vary from one year to another depending on weather conditions but knowing what type of floral scenery you desire coupled with locations that offer those types will help ensure that everything goes off without a hitch—and who knows? You may even end up with some truly stunning photographs by the end!
